So we continue with Bali as we passed by Tanah Lot, one of the most popular spots on the island and cultural icon for Indonesia. We spent New Year’s Eve in the Seminyak part of Bali. It was pretty wild as fireworks started in the afternoon and it was literally everywhere.
So we continued our Indonesian journey from Bali to the Gili Islands, more specifically Gili Trawangan. This small island is just for tourists, but it’s not as crowded as Bali. Not even close. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere. To prove this point, we even found a few places selling magic mushroom shakes (photo below). The beach is clean and the water is clear. We took the opportunity to do some scuba diving.
Then we were off to Senaru village on the island of Lombok. We wanted to visit their famous waterfalls by going on this 2-hour trek. The waterfalls are simply beautiful and the water is so fresh and clean. And we finished off the Lombok island by going to Senggigi. The beach is super clean and there’s barely any tourist! Definitely our favourite beach spot in Indonesia thus far.
We capped off our Indonesian journey by staying in Jakarta for a week. The crazy traffic is omnipresent. The number of huge malls with high-end stores still amaze us. We did some shopping in the city, as well as in Bandung, known for its many outlets.
Overall it was a very memorable trip with our friends. At least we didn’t feel like killing each other after three weeks. We love Indonesian food! And we can’t wait to go back there in the near future!
