Island Hopping around Indonesia (Part 2)

So we continue with Bali as we passed by Tanah Lot, one of the most popular spots on the island and cultural icon for Indonesia. We spent New Year’s Eve in the Seminyak part of Bali. It was pretty wild as fireworks started in the afternoon and it was literally everywhere.

So we continued our Indonesian journey from Bali to the Gili Islands, more specifically Gili Trawangan. This small island is just for tourists, but it’s not as crowded as Bali. Not even close. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere. To prove this point, we even found a few places selling magic mushroom shakes (photo below). The beach is clean and the water is clear. We took the opportunity to do some scuba diving.

Then we were off to Senaru village on the island of Lombok. We wanted to visit their famous waterfalls by going on this 2-hour trek. The waterfalls are simply beautiful and the water is so fresh and clean. And we finished off the Lombok island by going to Senggigi. The beach is super clean and there’s barely any tourist! Definitely our favourite beach spot in Indonesia thus far.

We capped off our Indonesian journey by staying in Jakarta for a week. The crazy traffic is omnipresent. The number of huge malls with high-end stores still amaze us. We did some shopping in the city, as well as in Bandung, known for its many outlets.

Overall it was a very memorable trip with our friends. At least we didn’t feel like killing each other after three weeks. We love Indonesian food! And we can’t wait to go back there in the near future!

Vacation in Bali, Indonesia (Part 1)

For the winter holidays, some friends and I packed up our bags and flew – in separate flights nonetheless – to Indonesia. Shierly was already in Jakarta for a few weeks to see her family and friends. My flight stopped by New York, USA and Tokyo, Japan, in which I had to stay overnight. Unfortunately it was already dark when I got to the airport and didn’t bother going out to the city. When I arrived in Jakarta, I was so happy to see my wife. We then took the plane together, heading to Bali to meet up with our friends.

Bali is full of friendly people. There is also a lot of tourists, so it’s a bit dirtier than last time we were there two years ago. We all visited an elephant sanctuary and the monkey forest. We witnessed the Balinese dance during sunset. We went to a “secret” beach where there are many lodgings for surfers. We sampled food at the local market. Oh and we also tried Kopi Luwak, one of the world’s most expensive varieties of coffee! Shierly + I are not coffee drinkers, so it didn’t really blow our mind. However we do love the ginseng coffee that we sampled!

Take a look at Part 2 of our trip as we visited the surrounding islands.

therese nguyen - I want my nasi campur from the market! :) Great pictures!!!

February 2, 2012 - 21:22

irvine - waaa, nice pics as always :D Did you guys eat “nasi kucing”? (the cat rice, similar to nasi campur but in smaller portion-cat portion ;p usually sold on the street)

February 7, 2012 - 02:31

Shierly - no, we didn’t get a chance to eat nasi kucing, we were targeting the food from recommended blogs etc. I realized when you go to Indonesia for its culinary, no matter how long you spend the vacation there, there will never be enough time to taste all food! =)

Stylish Boudoir Session with Christel

Christel is the other model who came to us and asked for a boudoir shoot. The session ended up being more of a fashion/lifestyle shoot with a bit of boudoir. I really like how the sunlight came into the room at that time.

Her makeup is done by Isabella Forget, while her hair is done by Maxime Lefrançois.

There’s one more shoot to feature on our blog and it’s the other half of Shierly’s bridal makeup and hair session. After that I’ll join my wife in her home country of Indonesia where we will spend quality time in beautiful Bali and the surrounding islands with some good friends of ours. And yes, we will take pictures like we did in Japan (Part 1 and 2).
