For the winter holidays, some friends and I packed up our bags and flew – in separate flights nonetheless – to Indonesia. Shierly was already in Jakarta for a few weeks to see her family and friends. My flight stopped by New York, USA and Tokyo, Japan, in which I had to stay overnight. Unfortunately it was already dark when I got to the airport and didn’t bother going out to the city. When I arrived in Jakarta, I was so happy to see my wife. We then took the plane together, heading to Bali to meet up with our friends.
Bali is full of friendly people. There is also a lot of tourists, so it’s a bit dirtier than last time we were there two years ago. We all visited an elephant sanctuary and the monkey forest. We witnessed the Balinese dance during sunset. We went to a “secret” beach where there are many lodgings for surfers. We sampled food at the local market. Oh and we also tried Kopi Luwak, one of the world’s most expensive varieties of coffee! Shierly + I are not coffee drinkers, so it didn’t really blow our mind. However we do love the ginseng coffee that we sampled!
Take a look at Part 2 of our trip as we visited the surrounding islands.
