Vacation in Bali, Indonesia (Part 1)

For the winter holidays, some friends and I packed up our bags and flew – in separate flights nonetheless – to Indonesia. Shierly was already in Jakarta for a few weeks to see her family and friends. My flight stopped by New York, USA and Tokyo, Japan, in which I had to stay overnight. Unfortunately it was already dark when I got to the airport and didn’t bother going out to the city. When I arrived in Jakarta, I was so happy to see my wife. We then took the plane together, heading to Bali to meet up with our friends.

Bali is full of friendly people. There is also a lot of tourists, so it’s a bit dirtier than last time we were there two years ago. We all visited an elephant sanctuary and the monkey forest. We witnessed the Balinese dance during sunset. We went to a “secret” beach where there are many lodgings for surfers. We sampled food at the local market. Oh and we also tried Kopi Luwak, one of the world’s most expensive varieties of coffee! Shierly + I are not coffee drinkers, so it didn’t really blow our mind. However we do love the ginseng coffee that we sampled!

Take a look at Part 2 of our trip as we visited the surrounding islands.

irvine - waaa, nice pics as always :D Did you guys eat “nasi kucing”? (the cat rice, similar to nasi campur but in smaller portion-cat portion ;p usually sold on the street)

Shierly - no, we didn’t get a chance to eat nasi kucing, we were targeting the food from recommended blogs etc. I realized when you go to Indonesia for its culinary, no matter how long you spend the vacation there, there will never be enough time to taste all food! =)
